Zelle Payments

Revolutionizing the way you send and receive money

A Better Way to Pay

We were asked to re-envision a peer-to-peer payment system supported by an alliance of the nation’s largest banks. The key differentiator for this app concept is that money transfers are instantaneous, and allow any customer of nearly every bank to send money to friends with only a phone number or email address.

Designing a modern, simple, and most importantly fun experience that works better than what’s out there

The Process

We kicked off the project with 1-to-1 user interviews and a competitive analysis of existing payments systems, both inside and outside the banking field.

First Time Receiving Money

Make receiving money a delight and more importantly get your money in as few steps as possible—four steps to be exact. Through user interviews we found that many consumers were cautious about receiving money from unbranded experiences. Therefore, the Bank of America design will increase a sense of security.

Quick Payback

Getting payment requests is stressful enough—why should fulfilling the payment be stressful? Fulfill requests without even opening the app first. Swipe right and you’re instantly taken to a pre-filled transaction.

Split Payments

Need to send money to nearby acquaintances? Just tap the compass icon and you can pull in information from those around you. More often than not, we need to split payments at different amounts. Do it all in one transaction by adjusting to the exact values everyone owes.

Smart Reciept Scanner

Out with your friends and need to split the bill? Scan your receipt, assign items, and we’ll do the math. Our receipt scan will automatically attribute the items and the amounts, even a handwritten tip. You can self-adjust if anything is missing or incorrect.
